The Dog Act 1976 and the Shire of Jerramungup Dogs Local Law addresses the control and registration of dogs, the ownership and keeping of dogs, and the obligations and rights of people, both as dog owners and non-dog owners.
Under the Shire of Jerramungup Dogs Local Law you can keep the following number of dogs (for purpose 24(4) of the Act)
i) Premises outside a townsite, 6 dogs over the age of 3 months and the young of those dogs under that age
ii) Premises located within a townsite, 2 dogs over the age of 3 months and the young of those dogs under that age.
Ratepayers and residents should be aware that Council is approaching dog control in a manner that is required by legislation and community needs. The Dog Act provides severe penalties for ongoing offences and offenders can face Court proceedings.
