Applying for a Demolition Permit

So what is the first step?
Generally, all demolition permit applications are exempt from obtaining planning approval (unless the demolition is of a heritage listed building/structure).

If your proposed demolition work is of a single storey dwelling, you do not necessarily need to hold a licence to carry out demolition works. However, all demolition work needs to be carried out in accordance with the Safety and health Act 1984 and the Occupational Safety and Health regulations from 1996.

For a single storey dwelling you will only need to:
   a) lodge an Application for a Demolition Permit,
   b) submit a site plan as identified in the Demolition Checklist, and
   c) pay applicable fees and bonds.

If your proposed demolition work is of a multi-storey building or structure, the demolition work must be carried out by a licenced demolition contractor.

Further information can be obtained from the Building Commission WA website.

For anything other than single storey dwelling demolition works you need to:
   a) lodge an Application for Demolition Permit,
   b) submit a site plan and all extra information required as outlined in the Demolition Checklist, and
   c) pay applicable fees and bonds.

Once you have compiled all information as indicated on the Demolition Checklist, you are now ready to submit your application package. You can either email all documents to development@jerramungup.wa.gov.au or hand in the documents in person to the Jerramungup Shire Office on Vasey Street or the Bremer Bay Shire Office on Mary Street (in the Community Resource Centre).

After your project has been completed, please make sure to submit form BA7 “Notice of Completion”. This will activate stage three of the development process and ensures your (demolition contractors’) compliance with the current Building Act 2011.

If you have any more questions or feel as if any critical information is missing, please do not hesitate to contact the Shire’s Development Team. We look forward to your feedback.
