Applying for an Industrial / Commercial Building Permit

The process of applying for an industrial/commercial Building Permit is similar to applying for residential Building Permit. You still have to run through the three stages of the development process:

  1. Planning Approval
  2. Building Approval
  3. Notice of Completion

However, when it comes to the Building Approval Stage there is one major change in the process.

All industrial/commercial structures (class 2-9 buildings) require a Certificate of Design Compliance issued by a private certifier. Therefore you will need to engage a private certifier and submit:
   • Form BA1 “Application for Building Permit- certified”
   • Certificate of Design Compliance
and all other information as advised by your building surveyor.

If you have not yet found a private certifier, please go to the Building Commission website for a list of registered private building surveyors.
